Wintana LLC is an independent software company working at the intersection of everyday technology and global health — built by people who needed these tools before they built them.
Wintana began with a familiar frustration. We know first-hand how hard it is to find a database that actually fits your research — the registries that exist were built around someone else's protocol, and the "flexible" platforms demand that you bend your study to their forms. We hit the same wall looking for a cost-effectiveness calculator for a new health intervention in low- and middle-income countries: the tools were either too generic to trust, too rigid to adapt, or locked inside consultancies charging more than the program itself.
So we built our own way out. We designed the database our research needed, and the modular calculator our budget questions demanded — grounded in published methods: WHO cost-effectiveness thresholds, Global Burden of Disease disability weights, peer-reviewed cost data. The tools worked. Then we realized the wall we had climbed was the same one facing research teams and health officials everywhere.
That is Wintana today: we were there, we found a way, and now we are helping you. Every tool we ship is one we wished someone had handed us — every assumption visible, every default editable, because decision-makers deserve models they can question, not black boxes they must trust.
Wintana was founded by Marcelo Cardarelli, MD, MPH — a pediatric cardiac surgeon who holds a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins and co-founded the Global Cardiac Alliance, which develops sustainable pediatric cardiac surgery programs in low- and middle-income countries.
The tools on this site grew directly out of that work. His peer-reviewed research on the cost-effectiveness of pediatric cardiac surgery in low- and middle-income countries — published in journals including JAMA Network Open and Cardiology in the Young — posed the questions these calculators and databases were built to answer. A full list of publications is available on his personal site.
We keep our portfolio deliberately small so every project gets senior attention from first sketch to final release. Custom work — scientific databases and calculator modules — is scoped collaboratively, delivered with documentation, and handed over with full ownership. No lock-in, no subscription traps.
Tell us about your project — we respond to every serious inquiry.
